The historical context for when that was written sounds really interesting. Was it "the USSR is about to fall and we're pretty sure that's about to happen" or "we really don't know what's coming down the pipeline, quick build more nukes! Star Wars space program! Go go go!"?
I finally started reading Anne Rice's
Prince Lestat last night. It's been sitting on my bookshelf since it came out like two years ago or whatever, but since the latest one came out a few weeks back, I figured I'd best get a move on it. I love the Vampire Chronicles, but I'll be honest and say I really kind of tuned out somewhere midway through The Vampire Armand. I like Armand. I also like Marius and Blood and Gold is okay, I guess, but realistically all I want is 400 pages of Lestat and Louis forgetting why they really shouldn't be in the same room together, hanging out in the same room together, and then going "oh yeah, that's why we don't do that anymore." That's not so much to ask for, is it?
I'm a couple hundred pages into Prince Lestat so far and honestly it feels like I'm good for not remembering any of the crap that happened after Blood and Gold. Blood Canticle? No thanks. Seems like Rice herself has decided to forget basically anything plotty that happened after Memnoch, and I am a-okay with that. But the thing I have always hated about the later VC books is how many vampires there are. Too many. I only care about like six** of them, so stop making new characters, Rice, STOP IT, I SAY.
**Lestat, Louis, Armand, Gabrielle, Marius. I guess I lied and I only care about five of them.
(Nicolas and Claudia don't count.)
Basically if you weren't in The Vampire Lestat or say... the musical, then I'ma speedread through your chapters.
