I would make sure that all of the actors actually looked like their book!counterparts. For one thing, even if there was someone famous, they would be dirtied up beyond recognition if necessary.

As for my casting:
Fantine- Charlotte Martin (have you seen this woman's hair?)
Jean Valjean- Sean Connery (because it would be hilarious)
Thénardier- Geoffrey Rush OR! Steve Buscemi OR! Dustin Hoffman
Mme. Thénardier- Kate Bush (because they are both terrifying) OR! Glen Close
Éponine- Kate Micucci (who is both really disturbing looking and painfully beautiful)
Azelma- Ellen Page (think her performance in An American Crime)
Montparnasse- Adam Beach
Marius- Ewan McGreggor
Babet- Hugh Laurie
Cossette- Charlotte Sullivan
Grantaire- Gregory Smith

And that's really all I have for now...

YES

...can anyone else see William Moseley as Enjolras? He's a good actor (in my opinion), and he looks somewhat Enjolraic.

All I want is Alan Rickman as Javert and Tim Roth as Valjean... think of the tension between these two, with Valjean far from being the flawless saint he's usually portrayed as...

Just went and looked up some recent pictures of him and can deff. see it. He's changed a lot since Caspian. Actually I think I'm developing a crush on his hair, it's very pretty. I'm not sure if I like him much as an actor, but Peter was never a character I liked so I didn't pay him much attention. At least he wouldn't have to be given an awful wig though.
I could picture Ben Barnes as Courfeyrac as well. But I suspect that may be me being biased as I try to fit him into any movie I contemplate casts for.

And while I'm here I'll share what I was contemplating in the early hours of this morning
I started casting a Muppet Les Mis movie.
Rizzo and Gonzo narrating
Sam Eagle - Javert
Kermit - Marius
Miss Piggy - Cosette
Bert and Ernie (I don't care if they're Seasame Street) - Enjolras (Bert) and R (Ernie)
Statler and Waldorf would be Gillenormand.
As you can see I was taking it most seriously.
I too am impossible

OH MY GOSH, LES MIS WITH MUPPETS.

You are genius. Just saying. :D

^I think I am just a bit too amused at the idea of the muppets doing Les Mis. To be honest, I think they'd probably do a hell of a better job than half the movies out there.

On twitter yesterday there was a discussion on casting the upcoming movie. Some of them are hilarious, others make me want to slap whoever wrote them with a wet fish...

Non-musical choices...?

Hee, I'm going to have to go with Shaz's wonderful choice for Enjolras from the land of RP: Alex Pettyfer. Seriously - blonde, handsome, "we are going to build a barricade even if it kills us" expressions.

(And are you guys telling me we can't get an RPattz or Zefron up in here as Marius? )

Andrew Garfield would make an adorable Marius.

As for Cosette, I think Emma Roberts would be wonderful (though with the right makeup, I can see her as Éponine or Azelma too). I also concur that Barbossa, I mean Geoffery Rush, would be awesome as Javert. And I want Hugh Jackman in here somewhere...

Iiiii don't knoooow (I have so so many strong reservations etc), Pettyfer is okaaay but he's just a little too manly!! I mean look at his chin it is so square. Like the absolute squarest! I can't think of anyone with full enough lower lips or a delicate enough woman-face besides him though so I guess he could do.

alternatively Enjolras could be played by a woman.

So now we just have the task of finding a pretty blonde-hair-blue-eyed thing who'd look good in trousers??
