Hugh Panaro Interview

Postby MllePaula » Wed Apr 30, 2008 6:12 am

OK, I know the word "e-mail" really doesn't belong in the same sentence with Hugh Panaro...

But with rehearsals underway in Philadelphia and the first preview just weeks away, I've arranged to do an interview with Hugh via e-mail.

I have my core list of questions, but I'd also like to open the questions up to some serious Les Miz fans, too.

So, if you have any questions you'd like me to ask Hugh about Les Miz, playing Marius and now Valjean, here is your chance. I'll also take a few general questions for him, too.

You can post here, message me here, or e-mail me.

I want to get the questions finished by this Friday.

Thanks!

Hi Paula!! Here is my question for Hugh.

Hugh,

What are the emotional differences between playing Marius and Valjean?

Ask him if he'll have to shave his chest hair for the role. :P

No, what would seriously interest me is how much "artistic licence" he gets, especially in a production which doesn't follow the strict guidelines that are usually set for all Les Mis productions.

What was the most harrowing/embarrassing/hilariously awful thing that's ever happened to him when performing?

And what's the worst piece of criticism he's received? (I remember once reading a review that described Michael Ball as sounding as though he was sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle when he was singing, and I felt terrible for the poor guy, imagining him reading it. Hopefully, no one's said anything like that about Hugh, though.)

What is his dream role? It doesn't have to be realistic-- like, it could be someone much younger or with a different vocal range or a woman or something.
I am playing the Queen of France right now in a play. Try not to decapitate me.
