Colm Wilkinson - Start and End Dates - London/NYC

Postby jjfabbsy » Thu Feb 12, 2015 5:19 am

Hi,

Does anyone have any information on Colm Wilkinson's tenures onstage performing Les Misérables prior to 10th Anniversary Dream Cast gig?

Specifically

- Start and end dates of West End tenure
- Start and end dates of Broadway tenure
- Any performances between end of Broadway and Dream Cast gig

Thanks in advance

Let's see:

West End: September 28th, 1985 (first preview) - October, 1986 (when he left for pre-Broadway try-outs)
Broadway: February 28, 1987 (first preview) - November 28, 1987 (he had meant to leave the show in July, but the original replacement, his understudy Kevin Marcum, passed away suddenly and Morris wasn't able to take over until November)

Between 1987 and the TAC concert in 1995, he did not appear in the show again. (For most of that time period he was playing the Phantom in Toronto.)

He performed as Valjean in the 1988 Royal Variety show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNE1WyY7vaE
Maybe there was one more in 1991? Patti LuPone performed IDAD then, but I couldn't find more of Les Mis from that show.

I'm not sure if the date of the first Barbican preview is correct. The ads and flyers for the Barbican run say that previews were scheduled to begin at September 27th: http://overtures.org.uk/?p=8111
The poster and the programme say September 28th: http://imageweb-cdn.magnoliasoft.net/sh ... b_0350.jpg
Now the song list which was given for free at the Barbican says September 30th. As this was the latest produced I'd say this is the correct date and three previews were canceled.

Hm, John Caird's website says that the first preview was September 28th. I could believe the ads and flyers were off and that a first preview was pushed back a day -- could the song list maybe have been the product of the September 30th preview? Maybe by the third performance they had moved enough things around to warrant publushing a new song list and dating it as of the 30th? Tough to say.

Ahahaha, your Christmas avatar, deHavilland!

I have actually made bullets like they're doing in my avatar. Then loaded the gun with a ramrod, and shot it. But I'm not feeling real good about guns right now.

Not surprising that previews would have been pushed back a day or so. Lots of technical stuff that would warrant it. It's hardly unheard of on the West End.
