Do you hear the people sing...in italian!

Postby Martine Robespierre » Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:44 pm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nHYxrBYMQkSqueeeeeee! It was ages I was waiting for something like this! Les Mis has never been translated into italian, so a group of amateur singers decided to remedy.

Here's the lyrics: ----- And the literal translation:

Dalle piazze e dalle vie----- From the squares and from the streets
un nuovo canto si alza gia'----- a new song rises now
quello di un popolo ribelle----- the song of a rebel people
che domanda liberta' . ----- who ask for freedom
Cresce al ritmo dei mortai ----- It grows to the rythm of the mortars
sopra gli accordi di un'idea ----- on the chords of an ideal
canta del giorno che vedrai,----- sing of the new day that soon
Presto nascera' ----- will come.

Con la gente per le strade ----- With the people in the streets
vieni a batterti anche tu ----- you too must go to fight
a quelle barricate----- to those barricades
che si innalzano laggiu' ----- you see rising from afar
Per poi dir insieme ----- To say all toghether
di no alle catene----- no more chains
mai piu'----- forever

Dalle piazze e dalle vie----- From the squares and the streets
un nuovo canto si alza gia ----- a new song rises now
e' il nostro grido d'uguaglianza----- It's our cry of equality
fratellanza e liberta' ----- fraternity and liberty
cresce come la marea----- It grows like the tide
rapido ovunque volera' ----- everywhere quickly it will fly
spinto dal vento d'un'idea----- driven by the winds of ideas
tutto cambiera' ----- everything will change

Tienti pronto ad avanzare ----- Be ready to advance
contro ad ogni avversita' ----- against each difficulty
dando tutto per portare ----- giving all you have
lo stendardo un po piu in là!----- to bring the banner ahead
del sangue versato ----- Our France will be grateful
la Francia a te grata----- for the blood shed
sarà ----- for her

Dalle piazze e dalle vie----- From the squares and the streets
un nuovo canto si alza gia----- a new song rises now
e' il nostro grido d'uguaglianza ----- It's our cry of equality
fratellanza e liberta'----- fraternity and liberty
cresce come la marea----- It grows like the tide
rapido ovunque volera' ----- everywhere quickly it will fly
spinto dal vento d'un'idea----- driven by the winds of ideas
tutto cambiera'------ everything will change

PS: Sorry for the dashes, but if I don't use them the lyrics and the translation show attched.

Oh heavens, this is fantastic! :D I have been wanting an Italian-language Les Mis (even in concert form) for quite a while. It's such a beautiful, flowing language; I'm just surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

Thanks for posting it, Martine!
and to this day, she's glided on
always home but so far away
like a word misplaced
nothing said, what a waste

Glad you liked it! They translated the whole musical! I will soon post other clips with lyrics and translation.

Awesome. 8)
They should do Les Misérables in my country!
It will come, citizens, that day when all shall be concord, harmony, light, joy and life; it will come, and it is so that it may come that we are going to die.

We strive towards a larger goal! Our little lives don't count at all!

LM has been done in Switzerland at least a couple times, but that was years ago... A revival, perhaps!

I know.... I made a lot of research today... They even did a non-musical version in Berne some years ago..
What I meant is a real Swiss version in Swiss German or Italian... ;)
