Ah yeah, the French Frankenstein's monster Les Mis record. Quite good idea to combine OFC 1980 soundboard and Paris 91 additions into one listening experience. You really need a bit of background-while lots of information is provided by the creator-to fully appreciate it. And even this one is not complete as it misses the Well scene. And the movie additions too. Man, would there be a way to combine all available English lyrics and songs into one coherent record? I doubt it.

Like a Complete Complete Symphonic? ;) Need to add I Saw Him Once, Little People, and Ten Little Bullets I guess, plus the OLC preview lyrics
Revolution: like Christmas come early only with more death
Abaisse Chief/Chef
"Les Amis Fun Package - The Awesome Traits of Each"
"She's basically Enjolras meets Amy Pond"
Sings Stars "way better than Russel Crowe"

Plus Suddenly and its reprise. :) And the movie Valjean-Javert confrontation (I have a crime to declare). And there's more cool stuff in the screenplay.

I saw him once NEEDS to be added back. I'm helplessly addicted to this little song. <3 <3

Is Ten Little Bullets on any of the official recordings? I think I've only heard it once in a bootleg. But honestly I prefer Little People. Little People with its original length and lyrics. :D

Nope, just on 1st revival boots.
Yeah, I am very much a fan of Little People. People used to go on about TLB being more Brick-ish, but Little People works better with the show I think.
I totally forgot the new stuff from the movie. Amazing how that didn't stick in my mind!

Not including Ten Little Bullets is one of the movie's biggest flaws IMO. It made Gavroche all bookish with the changed lyrics in Look Down...and then that stupid fiddle...and scene setup too. I mean he begs for that bullet to hit-far from the stage AND the book!

I thought I recognized that.

From the rest of this discussion I see there is more to learn than I ever imagined.

I have actually made bullets like they're doing in my avatar. Then loaded the gun with a ramrod, and shot it. But I'm not feeling real good about guns right now (10-3-17)

As in La Faute de Voltaire? Or the original Fenton version of Little People?

Unearthed a wee gem today after some googling. I vividly remembered a BBC documentary about the Shanghai run in 2002, and being especially excited due to it having Michael McCarthy as Javert. Never ever managed to find a copy of it until tonight, but here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5qmtl6ajrI

Les Mis Shanghai! *screams* Thank you for posting this Acaila!

I genuinely wish I was 10 years older, living in Shanghai, and a fan of Les Mis already in 2002. But I wasn't. :( I live far, far away from Shanghai and was younger than little Cosette when Les Mis came to Shanghai. I heard about the 2016 Asian tour two years ago and have been waiting for it since then. There were rumors about it coming to China in 2016 but the plan was eventually canceled for some reason. But actually even if Les Mis did come again I couldn't see it since I'm now in the US, and I would probably be cursing my bad luck for being stuck here when the Broadway revival is over while there's the Asian tour on the other side of the Earth...

The video is absolutely right about there being no tradition of musical in China but now we're getting there step by step. There have been Chinese productions of other musicals years ago. I've seen Avenue Q once and it was absolutely amazing. I wish they could do a Chinese production of Les Mis too. Those people really have the potential to do it justice. (They're now doing Man of la Mancha and Sound of Music which I'm planning to see when they come to my city).

I have to say Avenue Q seems a strange one to take over there! Do they get things like jokes about Gary Coleman?

I know it seems strange because this show is so...American. But the translator localized most of the jokes. For example, while in the English version they're discussing racial discrimination which isn't a problem here, the translator changed the topic to stereotypes about people from different regions in China which we do talk a lot in our daily conversation. Some "universal" jokes (like the porn one) were kept though. Also every character got a Chinese name. Princeton became Tsinghua here. :D

My favorite part of this video is Randal Keith. Don't get me wrong, I love his Valjean, he gives a stunning performance that only got better over the years -- but oh man, he is SO bitter about Colm taking back over. Absolutely delightful.

"Yeah, well, since COLM is doing MY PART, Cameron Mackintosh asked me if I'd do the stupid loudhailer bit. Thanks a lot, CamMack. THANKS A LOT, COLM WILKINSON." -- Randal Keith (paraphrased)
"Quand vous aurez besoin de Bahorel, capitaine, Bahorel est là! Je sais faire trébucher tous les chevaux du garde-corps avec une ficelle... Rien qu'une petite ficelle. Enfin, pensez à Bahorel du Café Musain!"
