Dream Cast

Postby AndrewShatterhand » Tue Nov 14, 2006 1:35 am

I don't think we have one of these here yet. You get a LesMis time machine! Put together your dream cast out of different cast members throughout the years!

Jean Valjean- Colm Wilkinson [1987]
Javert- Roger Allam [1985]
Fantine- Ruthie Henshall [1995]
Cosette- Rebecca Caine [1985]
Marius- Michael Ball [1985]
Éponine- Francis Ruffelle [1985]
Thenardier- Alum Armstrong [1995]
Mme. Thenardier- Jenny Galloway [1995]
Enjolras- Anthony Warlow [1989]

Nothing out of left field. As you can see, I'm a big OLC fan.

Right, let me see... I'm afraid I don't know as many as you lot, but I'll just name my favourites here.

Valjean: Colm Wilkinson (after someone has taught him not to squeak  )
Javert: Philip Quast
Fantine: Ruthie Henshall
Cosette: Rebecca Caine
Marius: Michael Ball (or Hugh Panaro, to make my sister happy  )
Thénardier: Alun Armstrong
Éponine: Lea Salonga
Enjolras: David Burt

I already did my true fantasy cast so here's a more modern/realistic "dream cast" should they record another CSR or concert...

Jean Valjean- John Owen Jones
Javert- Norm Lewis
Fantine- Kerry Ellis
Cosette- Ali Ewoldt*
Marius- Hayden Tee
Éponine- Celia Keenan-Bolger
Thenardier- Gary Beach
Mme. Thenardier- Jenny Galloway
Enjolras- Aaron Lazar

*Tough choice between Ewoldt and Gina Beck. I couldn't decide so I just went with the performer who I've actually seen live.

Although I'm sure my favorite Fantine, Ruthie Henshall, could probably still do it, I'd like to see someone else get a shot. Same thing with Javert (Allam is my favorite but I'm not sure if he'd be still up to it 20+ years later and Quast already has the TAC).

Valjean: Jeff Leyton
Javert: Philip Quast
Cosette:....?
Marius: Matthew Cammelle
Enjolras: Anthony Warlow or Michel Sardou
Éponine: Kaho Shimada
Thenardier: Barry James
Mme. Thenardier: Jenny Galloway

I think it's time to update my "realistic" dream cast (my fantasy dream cast hasn't changed...yet). Changes from the last list (which is a few posts above) are in italics...

Jean Valjean- John Owen Jones
Javert- Philip Quast
Fantine- Lea Salonga
Cosette- Gina Beck
Marius- Hayden Tee
Éponine- Celia Keenan-Bolger
Thenardier- James Chip Leonard
Mme. Thenardier- Jenny Galloway
Enjolras- Aaron Lazar

Lewis, Ewoldt, and Beach all fell out of favor with me since the last list. I didn't really want to put Quast in there (although he's my second favorite) because he was already Javert in a "dream concert" but I couldn't think of anyone else so he's kinda there by default. I would've put Allam in there but, as I said in my previous list, I really don't know what shape his voice is in 22 years later.

Javert: Anthony Crivello
Fantine: Randy Graff
Cosette: Judy Kuhn or Regan Thiel
Thenardier: Leo Burmester
Mme T: Jenny Galloway
Éponine: Lea Salonga
Marius: Michael Ball
Enjolras: Anthony Warlow
Grantaire: Anthony Crivello (no idea how that's going to work out!)

I'm picking an 'old' and a 'new' cast member for some of the roles... 'old' being someone off of one of the recordings and 'new' being from the Revival or another such cast. WHOA! Someone else who likes Randy Graff's interpretation!

Valjean: Colm Wilkinson/ Alexander Gemignani
Javert: Terrence Mann / Norm Lewis (Also love Rob Hunt)
Fantine: Randy Graff/ Nikki Renee Daniels
Cosette: Honestly, who cares?
Thenardier: Alun Armstrong
Mme T: Jenny Galloway
Éponine: Let's... let's just cut her from the show.
Marius: Michael Ball/ Adam Jacobs
Enjolras: Michael Maguire
Grantaire: Anthony Crivello/Brian Walker

I'ma do the same thing as Schmerg. In cases where I have an "old" preference (someone on a major cast recording), I'll put them in (along with years) as well as my "new" preference.

Valjean - John Owen Jones
Javert - Brian Stokes Mitchell (new)/Philip Quast [1995](old)
Fantine - Lea Salonga (new)/Ruthie Henshall [1995](old)
Marius - Adam Jacobs (new)/Michael Ball [1989](old)
Cosette - Ali Ewoldt (new)/Rebecca Caine [1985] (old)
Éponine - Celia Keenan-Bolger
Enjolras - Aaron Lazar (new)/Michael Maguire [1987] (old)
Thenardier - Alun Armstrong
Mme. T - Jenny Galloway
Grantaire - Drew Sarich (new)/Anthony Crivello [1987] (old)

Valjean: John Owen Jones or Rene what's-his-name from the Dutch
Javert: Philip Quast/Michael McCarthy
Fantine: ...?
Marius: I'm not very imaginative, I've always liked Michael Ball
Cosette:...
Éponine: don't care
Thenardier: Alun Armstrong
Mme. T: Jenny Galloway
Enjolras: Anthony Warlow (if only he didn't sound like he was falling asleep all the time)

Anthony Warlow (if only he didn't sound like he was falling asleep all the time)

That combined with all the vibrato has caused me to compare his voice to a guy who died at the wheel of a racecar with his foot slammed down on the break. (I actually like him, but he scares me sometimes. It's like his head jerks back and vomits forth music.)
I am playing the Queen of France right now in a play. Try not to decapitate me.
