Anna Karenina

Obviously a huge novel with a ton to discuss, most of which I loved, but was I the only one who found Levin’s ending so totally unsatisfying? It felt like Tolstoy really understood and accurately portrayed his depression, his suicidality, how there wasn’t really anything wrong but he still just didn’t want to live, etc., and then his epiphany and finding of peace felt like it didn’t resolve his issues at all. I know he has faith now in some type of God and that’s been a major issue for him throughout the novel, but I just found it felt almost inauthentic. It felt like such a neat and tidy ending compared to Anna and Vronsky’s storyline.

The National Ballet of Canada has a new production of Anna Karenina starting this month with choreography by John Neumeier but they've set it in modern day so WHO EVEN CARES.

Ew, I hate that. Is it playing in Toronto?
