Vietnamese Spambots

A lot of the newer members seem to be Vietnamese spambots. Is there a way to get rid of them?

Vietnamese Spambots can love Les Mis, too.

Typically when she notices, Acaila deletes them.

Yeah, we've had an issue with them for a while. There is verification at sign up, but evidently they've found a way past that....
I always check new posts first, but you can report them using the post report function, and I usually pick them up within a couple of days, or Mme Javert does sometimes too.

So the spambots may have actually forced my host to disable Abaissé.

The last day or so apparently the site has been disabled due to Abaissé causing instability on my database server, which is shared because hell if i'm paying for a dedicated server ;)
The best guess is there is a huge amount of spam activity coming here which I am going to attempt to cut down on. I'm not exactly an expert in all this but I'm going to do my best!

My host has threatened to permanently delete Abaissé if it continues now that I've gotten the site re-enabled, but I remain rather, um, skeptical that I can actually stop it entirely.

Thank you for your bringing it back and your efforts to keep it.

I have notIced in recent weeks that the number of online users has been through the roof, presumably 99% of them spam bots. Thanks for being on top of it, MmeJ!

I've moved on to IP banning.

With the site being disabled yet again, the only way to do it is to ban IPs that seem to hit the site excessively. This is going to take some time; i've banned several already that are associated with spam accounts, but it's gonna take some time to identify them all.

That said, if I accidentally ban someone who is just overzealous about visiting I, uh, am not really sorry, exactly, but it can be corrected. ;)

Aw, man! Thought the number of online users meant that people were active again. :(

Thank you for everything you're doing for Abaissé, MmeJavert. Good luck with the IP bans.

(I AM pretty overzealous about visiting, but I've been pretty busy lately, no time to go on here, so hopefully I'm not a spambot.)

Seem to have had a nastily persistent Dutch one today - at least the Vietnamese bots tended to keep their posts to single figures

I'm modding via phone at the moment due to a borked laptop, but had a quick look at the newest end of the member list as the spam from the last couple of days seems to be coming from late November registrations. There are still a lot of spammy looking new users there - can anyone see if they're banned or still potentially active?

Spambot "ClydeLox" still has a post up in brick meta which is spam. Other than that I can't identify more.
