Absolute Worst Nicknames

Postby a_marguerite » Wed Jun 27, 2007 3:10 am

Ah ha! A thread wherein one torments the characters of Les Mis by inflicting upon them horrific nicknames! (Inspired by Horatio Hornblower, whose canon nickname is "Horry". Yes, he cringes each time he hears it.)

I think that "Marie" for Marius would be pretty bad and if someone actually called Enjolras "Enjy", things would go very bad for them very quickly. "Jenny" for Valjean might be a bad idea as well. I dare someone to find a nickname for Javert worse than "Snookums".

I like to call Éponine Eponinja sometimes. I think that has to be one of the stupidest nicknames ever.

Check out my new userpic. EPONINJA! hiiiii-yaaaa!

Also, Gavvie and Snookums probably aren't appreciated, and I'd love to call Joly. Holly Joly or Holy Joly or something retarded like that.

In Valley of the Night, Cric and I landed both Valjean and Javert with a nickname. Valjean gets called "ickle Jean-Jean" by a fellow, and Gavroche calls Javert "Whiskers". Oh, and Bahorel calls Courfeyrac "Fatty" when he wants to anoy him.

I hope no one ever called Enjolras "Apollo" to his face. While that happens a lot in fanfic, I doubt in canon that Enjolras would have taken that sitting down.

I've tried calling Éponine "Eppy" in some of my cracked out 'moderne' fic. Gavroche gets called "Vroche" in most of my stories.

I have heard Fantine referred to as "Fanny" once. And I didn't know you were writing a modern fic, Aurelia. Are you planning on posting it, or are you just writing it for fun? :)

Fanny? XD I think that should win some sort of award.

I think Fatty would work very well for Courfeyrac- wasn't there a discussion a while back about Courfeyrac being based on Danton?

That moderne fic should never see the light of the web. Never.

The worst 'canon' nicknames (that is, nicknames actually used in Les Mis) probably belong to Enjolras. I always crack up when I read the conversation between him and Gavroche, and Gavroche calls Enjolras 'smooth face'.

Yep, that was me being all for Courfeyrac being not exactly slim. :D Just a bit plump would work, wouldn't it? And besides, Danton wasn't too slender either and not handsome at all and still had all those women at his feet (or rather in his bed).
So... FATTY! :P

Has anyone here ever tried calling Javert "Snookums"? It's not as bad as Snookums, but just as awkward.

In fic, I've heard Joly being referred to as Malade Imaginaire. Wonder if anyone would call him BlinkyJoly because of his glasses + his hypochondria.

Four eyes, perhaps.

The worst nickname I've given a Les Mis character would be Valjohnny for Valjean. I'm not entirely sure why, but Jean Valjean reminds me of Johnny Bravo.

That nickname makes me laugh.

My buddy calls Enjolras "Enjo".

Enjo? XD I think we have, at least, found an abbreviation less dignified than Enjy.

Bahorel calls him "Céd" in Valley of the Night. (Yes, for Cédric.) :D Not that bad, though.

In my story, Enjolras is called E.J. and Courfeyrac is called 'Fracy or Marky because his name is Marcus.
