*snort* Lovely Rachel

Absolutely! If any of these keyboard warriors knew the first thing about literary analysis, they'd know about reader response theory and would know that you can tell the author to go and shove it as far as their intention goes and it doesn't make it an invalid response.
Down with the tyranny of the pen! Power to the reading proletariat! Vive la revolution! Ahem....

It particularly rankles for me as a director because if authorial intent is what matters, why the heck do I exist as someone to create meaning on stage? Particularly when tackling the likes of Greek tragedy!

Thanks Acaila and Liv.

There are some real good authors for every ship, every sub genre within the fandom. It's just a matter of finding time to look through it all, which was how I discovered Spirit of the Dawn's "City of Glass"; that's one of the best in-progress fanfics I've ever followed.

The only way to really resolve the "What Hugo Thought" question is unfortunately, a seance.

And, as Rachel was alluding to, there's plenty of literary theorists and experts who would contend that it doesn't actually matter one iota what Hugo thought.

It's probably related to what a literary critic professor once told my sister: a book ceases to become solely the author's once it is published.

Yep, the Death of the Author is a very important text for anyone studying literary theory: http://www.tbook.constantvzw.org/wp-con ... arthes.pdf

(and is about 4 times as long as it needs to be. I made a lot of jokes about "death of the author" and Barthes in classes back in the day!)

My dog Wicket passed away. The poor girl didn't even make it to surgery.

I'm done asking "Why?" and yelling at God for taking away yet another good friend (exactly 5 years ago I lost a lovely friend too, and also got the horrible news by phone). I don't want to deal with tomorrow's impending trouble with my org mates without the assurance of having a furry friend to comfort me when I get home. I'm really going to miss the way she'd greet me by rolling over onto my shoes and not letting me up till I'd give her a belly rub. I'll even miss the way she'd kick me out of bed every morning by hogging my pillows or stealing my blanket.

It's not going to be heaven without my furry friend.

Oh I'm so sorry, Relly  I just saw. I wish I could make you feel better, you have so much troubling you at the same time and now I feel much angrier towards that stupid friend... Remember Wicket and all those lovely memories. Many hugs to you!
Then I saw their trembling features warp and, gradually,
Their foreheads turn pale and dissolve in front of me,
And everyone, like a stream that flows into a sea,
Became completely lost in a dark immensity.

Thanks, Liv!

It's like one of my amies (too bad she works on the other end of the city) said, this is all bad timing. At least I haven't returned to school yet owing to weather. I need time to reapproach things. To figure out how to deal with people, reassess relationships. I'm thankful for the people who know me to the core and do not like me just because I am 'there' or useful.

I've never really belonged to where I am enrolled, and in hindsight, I don't think I want to.

Those things come always all together at the same time..

At least you don't have to go to school now.

My problem is that i have to and especially the matura paper is stressing me a whole lot too...Although I would really enjoy it and I am very interested to know what the answers will be

It just makes me sick to see or hear people comparing Enjolras and the other Barricade Boys to Edward Cullen and the Twilight Characters. The Barricade Boys were brave patriots willing to die for their beliefs and stood up against an oppressive government who was denying the people their basic rights. The Twilight characters are fictional monsters that do not exist and never did exist. I'll admit that I am a Twilight fan but hearing Enjy compared to Edward Cullen makes me want to scream.
" He makes no vain sacrifice who fights for a cause. All here are ready to die so that our brothers may live as free men. Liberty... sweet liberty... come fight with those who defend you." ----Enjolras.

There there. Forgive them for they know not what they do.

At least he is not being compared to Christian Grey.

You say that, I was thinking yesterday that Jeremy Hays could totally pull off that character (from the little I have gathered via the medium of the internet, as if I'd actually read that crap! I take my pornyfic from a far more literate fandom!) And he is a fabulously Enjolraic type.

Who even does that? Why? Because of the smut? The smut of the fandom is a million times better 8)

The comparison? Well someone dug something up on Tumblr. Cue in the brain bleach that night.

Oh it is better.

Jeremy Hays as that sort of character? Ooh now I cannot unsee that.
