Need advice!
What's the best way to store audio/visual files reliably?
(You know, for souvenir collecting purposes)
Thanks!

An external hard drive is best... For brand, I tend to go for WD, but Seagate is also good, and there may be other kinds I haven't tried that other folks here will recommend. Bigger is better -- I have a 2 TB one, but am looking to upgrade soon (especially since the prices on 4TB and bigger have gone down in the last couple of years, and they keep coming out with even bigger ones). If you can afford it, consider getting a backup external drive as well, and save any souvenirs you get onto both so if anything happens to one, you'll still have the spare.

Happy belated Bastille Day, all! :D

I've got two Seagate and a Maxtor in the external stakes. The Maxtor is actually about ten years old now I think about it.
Both Seagates are 2TB, and the second is meant to be a back up, but now the first one is full....

My only hard drive (400GB) is full but I don't have the budget to buy a new one. I'm storing the new souvenirs I get on my 24601 different Mega accounts now. It's definitely not safe but I don't have any other choice. I think the best thing I can do at the moment is only keeping important videos on my hard drive. The less important ones and audios can go online. But Les Mis already takes up 150GB and Tanz der Vampire and Elisabeth 100GB so I actually only have 150GB free space at most even if I upload everything else to Mega.

Life as a musical fan is hard. :(

I've been using an external drive up til now, but those aren't 100% reliable (I recently had one (non-collection related) go haywire and am still trying to get it fixed ) so I was hoping there was another way. I guess the backup option is probably the first step...

You could pay for cloud storage. That's probably more reliable I'd guess?

I have the next step up from free with Dropbox and consider that mostly secure. I also use it to transfer the same file from one computer to another (mine, and the one like it at my mother's) so I can work on it without what we used to call AdidasNet. Only what if some of these ingenious hackers hit the Dropbox servers? I'm thinking about getting a multi-terabyte external drive.

I use two external hard drives; one that contains everything that's on my computer and which gets updated about once a month, one that holds my most precious things, those that can't be replaced. These are pictures, concert videos and stuff like that. Thankfully (knock on wood) I haven't lost anything vital yet.
