Enjolras about as festive as Enjolras gets - enjoying a glass of the only wine he'd drink...vin rebelle '89, a very good year.

His wobbly Phrygian cap I've borrowed from TheHighestPie, as featured in Gusts from the Depths(hope she doesn't mind!).

Am incredibly irritated that scanner insisted on chopping the wine holding glass and the top. I succeeded in scanning it complete only as a tiff, which I now can't convert to anything useful except a low res. I'll try again tomorrow when I'm not so knackered, but had to get this up tonight as it's already post-Bastille Day.

Done while drinking Veuve Cliquot with friends.

Aww, that makes me smile. :D You almost want to grab him and (try to) dance with him. He looks so... boyish and cheerful, it's adorable.

(Incidentally, to your friend who thought he was gay: yes. yes he is, in fact. ;) )

He's probably demanding to know why someone hung up a banner in English - "Is this some sort of jest, Courfeyrac? If it is, I'm not laughing..."

I assured the friend that the debate was not whether he was gay, but rather a furious academic discourse over top/bottom. With his patriotic paraphernalia here, he looks as camp as a row of tents...or would, if he wasn't so earnest about it.

Dammit. The hand doesn't work with the index finger cut off! Grrrrr scanner.

And I already had to ditch my other idea, which was Combeferre, Courfeyrac and Enjolras raising a toast. It had to be in colour, but I couldn't do the detail I wanted in paint on an A4 size sheet while half asleep. I was reasonably happy with their lapels and ultra-fashion 1830s outfits, but complete fail on the faces. It wound up shredded in pieces.

:P

He looks like he's having a grand ol' time. Despite you being knackered and all, it's still quite wonderful.

Haha, I see a little bit of stiffness in the lips, there, like someone forced him to pose for this and he's trying to look pleasant while clenching his jaw. Or maybe I just project my own ideas about Enjolras onto your painting.

This made me smile. Poor Enj.

And, as always, the tight coat makes me stare.

*grins* Steal whatever you want - I'm flattered.

Apparently Bastille Day needs to happen more often. He almost looks laid-back and friendly here. Imagine that.

Out of curiosity, how did the friend react to learning about our very - ahem - academic debate?

Thanks Parnasse...I sleepwalked through much of yesterday.

Heh. He needed a tight coat over which to wear his sash, Loony...I nearly gave him the Epic Lapels (might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb...if he's going to be drinking, he might as well be a fashion victim while he's at it) but the style of this particular double-breasted coat had narrow lapels. And yes, there is a very slight tension in the jaw...but he *is* having a good time. He's just not going to be grinning manically about it (Courfeyrac was grinning manically when I did him. So much so he looked like an 1831 Joker. There was a serious Pennywise the Clown thing going on with him as well).

Pie, one friend (the one who is convinced all my boys look gay - mission accomplished!) just laughed uproariously - she's accustomed to the surreal turns our conversations take. BFF, however, thought it a subject worthy of serious discussion, and proceeded to chip in her own viewpoints about how someone behaves in their public life not necessarily reflecting their bedroom behaviour etc.

They had me drag up the Deviant Art gallery at one point, and voted Enjolras' neck as hot. So my work on that issue is complete. Although they did raise an eyebrow at my justifications for doing it as I did...vulnerable, exposed, Evadne reference, yadda yadda. They just blinked and said "no...hot."

Samhain Jehan.

Image
He would so *get* this Celtic celebration...going into the dark season, and sacrifice to ensure rebirth. Not to mention a day when the walls between worlds are very thin.

If the Jack-O'-Lantern looks odd, it's because it's not a pumpkin - it's a giant rutabaga, one of the vegetables they used before the soft, carvable pumpkin of North America became popular mid-Century. Celtic heads/skulls = fascinating. Apparently, the glowing white of a root vegetable is more skull-like and eerie. I'm tempted to try it, although they're harder to carve than pumpkins.

There are a couple of other scattered Samhain symbols - pommegranates on the shelf, and belladonna on the table that you can't see.

In a sense, every day is Halloween for Jehan. He's wearing a 1790s outfit here - verging on Incroyable.

Oh goodness! Perfect, perfect, perfect!

Sorry to gush like that, but I couldn't think of anything more coherent.

This really is very lovely. :D

I was going to add that he was offering a drink, MmeJavert - he's even brought his own drinking utensil :)

Glad you and Mamselle Miss like him!

This pic is so gorgeous - the lighting, the jack o' lantern, Jehan with a skull.

And Jehan is so adorable. (the waistcoat lapels!)

The more you dress him like an Incroyable, the more I want him to have a Merveilleuse girlfriend :)

That is beautiful. I can totally see him as being into this holiday. The lighting is gorgeous here, I love the way the colours work. Jehan's expression is pretty perfect too. He still has the beauty and youthfulness that I've always associated with him, but with a definite tinge of the sinister.

Is that... a child's skull?? Bad Jehan!

This picture rocks. Everything from the glowing rutabaga (I concur, they do look decidedly creepier than pumpkins) to Jehan's hideous wardrobe, to the wallpaper and decorations and eerie candlelight... it all just comes together so well in screaming out "Halloween! Prouvaire style!" Bravo. :D

I've said that I love your new Prouvaire, haven't I? Because I seriously love your new Prouvaire.

If you're looking for a critical viewing, I'd say that the lighting seems rather off. Is the source something other than the candle, that it's so powerful and able to reach the front of his face?

Magic candle or not, he's still wonderful. I adore the rutabaga detail.
