These are both awesome. The pattern on Courfeyrac's waistcoat! Jehan - oh, honey *facepalm*. The hat is particularly fab.

And the Enjolras pic is gorgeous.

Oh please DO draw Jehan in colour. I mean, if his friends could let him dress himself like that and deal with him dressed so outlandishly on a daily basis, I'm sure we too can handle it.

And... oh, Enjolras. Always has gorgeous hair. Bet he doesn't even try to get it that way.

I concur... please do a colour version. And Enjolras is gorgeous, as always.

(You can throw colours on top of drawings with GIMP as well, though I'm sure it's easier in photoshop.)

I'd mostly be excited to see the yellow pants for some reason. I'm imagining a colour that I'm sure is absolutely wrong. Like a clown or Ronald McDonald.

Is it bad that I think Jehan's coat is awesome? Courfeyrac looks fab too, of course. And I also really love the way Jehan is standing for some reason.

I love the way you played with light in the Enjolras picture. When I draw fire... well, it looks stupid, but you've managed it extremely well!

I'll see about doing an coloured version...might do one of the even more OTT styles from 1795 (GIANT VERTICAL STRIPES! WHEEEEEEEE!!!). I'm actually kind of on-side with Jehan on the clothing thing, given I often walk around in dead people's clothes (my little brother once had a dig at me - 'doesn't it worry you that the original owner of that dress is long dead?' - 'Why no! Would you like me to tell you her name and the date she died? I happen to have excellent provenance on this one....' ). He needs to have a medieval element to his outfit as well, though. MmeBahorel, didn't you mention once writing a story in which he's cutting up a velvet dress to make a doublet? That sort of thing!

It must have been a great contrast to see them all in action, Cary - given they were students, I imagine there was a bit of colourful clashing going on. And not just with Bahorel and his waistcoats. I'd actually like to think that Jehan's poor dressing was because he was wearing the odd outfits sported by the Romantics, and not just that he didn't know how to get a well-tailored outfit. And did Joly ever get those fawn pants made...?

Loony, the yellow pantaloons aren't quite as bad as they sound - it's a pale yellow, not a canary shade. The boots look orangish in the illustration, but I suspect are meant to be a natural leather. The other colours are, however, very primal.

The Enjolras pic needs to be fixed. I wasn't the most sober person on the face of the earth when I scanned and put it up here last night, so the flame and hand need to be corrected.

... how can you stand to be so talented? It's so fun to see all the history in your work. I particularly love Jehan's hat. The contrast between him and Courfeyrac is just fabulous and their facial expressions are hilarious.

Also, eeeee, more symbolic Enjolras! There's a rather etheral quality to him in this pic that works marvelously.

I hope you had a very happy birthday! Is there anything you would want, drabble or fic wise, as a belated present?

Gorgeous as usual Despard. I really like the latest Enjolras one. Heh, I know it's spring over where you are but today over here was a very crisp, clear fall day and the drawing, with its fire and smokiness kinda fits in with that "it's fall" feeling I'm having.

Just read the bit about your birthday. Belated greetings!

I'm just curious: Are you planning to draw Bahorel/Prouvaire plundering the Catacombs of Paris? I have a hideous inspiration bug doing damage in my head, but I won't touch it unless you have no intention of covering the subject.

Thank you for the birthday msgs, a_marguerite and Cary! It was a blast. My liquor cabinet is now well and truly restocked with all the booze I was given (not to mention some lovely vintage 1920s jewellery and beaded bag). I would adore you forever if you wrote anything on Enjolras and/or your very lovely Courfeyrac, a_marguerite, as you've got some dazzling characterisations of both in that new fic you're writing!

Cheers, Ulkis! It is supposed to be a cold night with the dark closing in...I'm glad that worked. I'm going to try and do some touch ups on it and a couple of other pieces that need some work.

Cary, I would absolutely adore seeing you do something with Jehan and Bahorel in the Catacombs! I do have a vague idea for another Jehan/Skull pic for Halloween, but it's not a Catacomb pic. It sounds like tremendous fun as a concept, particularly given the contrast in these two characters.

This is what happens when Despard draws with a hangover, kiddies. This was intended to be a straightforward Enjolras and Prouvaire pic, with no slashy subtext at all - more Prouvaire dressing outlandishly, and Enjolras not caring as they work on a speech. Instead, Enjolras became all...flirty. Seriously flirty. Judge for yourself:

Hahaha, oh Enjolras. Love his expression. I do, however, love Jehan's outfit more.

I've been writing your birthday present since Thursday, Despard. I think I'll have it done tonight or tomorrow night. I hope. I fail at on-time presents.

Ooooooo! Pressie is good, whenever it arrives! And glad you like Jehan's outfit - it's another 1790s Incroyable vintage thing. He obviously found a stash of them somewhere.

When I saw the new title to the thread my eyebrows shot up higher than I knew they could go. And now I'm having one of those giggle fits that I'm really glad no one is asking me to explain.

"It's because of Enjolras! Look at him! That's Prouvaire and Enj is all... heyyyyy..."

They just wouldn't understand.

Yes, I do see the "trouble", but it just means we need to you to sketch when hungover more often :)

I adore Jehan's outfit in particular.

Three and a half hours later and this picture cracked me up again. This time it was Jehan's clothes. I don't know why I'm getting so tickled... sleep deprivation? But it's glorious.

I realise I've made appreciative comments whose gist consisted in 'LAPELS!' in the past, but it's singularly appropriate this time, so, LAPELS! (Happy growing old, too, of course!)

(And, belatedly and irrelevantly - 'Double breasted green cloth coat. Blue waistcoat. Red under-waistcoat. Spotted neckcloth. Yellow pantaloons. Knee-high leather boots. And a hat courtesy the Romantic look of the era.'-- oh, God, I used to dress like that when I was young and reckless. Well, not exactly like that, more rosé coat, red/green striped scarf, purple glasses, blue velvet hat. The 'extraterrestrial on shore leave' look, approximately.)
