Lego Barricade

Postby Legeaux » Tue Feb 05, 2013 12:51 am

Years ago, I built a barricade of Lego to show at one of the first national gatherings of Lego fans in Australia. That was 2001.

Nearly twelve years later, I rebuilt it on a much grander scale for a much larger national gathering of Lego fans in Australia. I was pleased that it was awarded a Commendation. It was perhaps even more pleasing to hear a number of visitors start humming or singing as they looked at it...
(Here’s a better pic, taken by someone else at the gathering).

Oh my barricades!!

That is seriously impressive!! *goes to Google to search for a Les Mis Lego set*

If you haven't so far, you should seriously tweet these images to Killian, Fra, Alistair, Samantha, Blagden, and people like that. You could become EVERY Les Mis fan's favourite new hero overnight - I mean it!

I'm super impressed by the way you managed to do the Cosette logo in the background there! I'm sure there's some like mathematical figuring-out involved and *_* so awesome.

It was fun to stand next to it at the exhibition and see/hear visitors' reactions to it.

One guy looked at it for a long time, turned to me and said "You know... I know why the students lost."

"Why is that? outnumbered? outgunned? fairly flimsy barricade?"

"No" he said "None of them are looking over the barricade at the soldiers..."

He had a point.

...how many bricks did you use? Really?
I appreciate the rooftop snipers, the sewer grate, Grantaire and, most of all, the excellent tableau in the corner.

I'm guessing probably around 1500 - 2000 pieces. 24,601 sounds much more impressive, though ;-)

You don't know how happy and sad this makes me. After being inspired by a Youtube video, I myself created a Lego barricade (equal to this one? Not even close. But not bad nonetheless.

I'm happy that I'm not the only one with a Lego barricade. :D

I'm sad that yours trumps mine by so much

Remind me to upload a picture of my Lego sewer scene! That is pretty awesome.
