After a few bad experiences of dental/maxfax surgery under local I would have tried to persuade them to go for general if I'd had the option. As it was, with the extra work on my palate, it had to be general anyway. I have more surgery due for my jaw in a year or so but I'll be less happy-go-lucky about the general anesthetic next time. Morphine is nasty stuff and left me sick for a week after.
It was quite funny though, the anesthetist was having trouble finding a vein and I was really cheerful about it saying it happens all the time (i have really bad veins) and he was getting really stressed and by the time he got it he wasn't in the mood for calming me down before I got knocked out (encouraging me to count to 100 or something), he just said "sleep" in a really cross voice. Already half out of it with the morphine, my last moments of consciousness were of utter terror.
