Crime and Punishment

Anyone else read it? Read it last year, and this seems like the most appropriate place for any discussion. Struggled to get through it initially, but loved it towards the end.

Re: Star Wars!

Yeah, it gets that balance correct between giving us characters who are deep enough to allow the viewer to care about them, while still ensuring that there's enough entertainment to keep audiences engaged. I'd say Kylo Ren was probably the most complex character there, with his struggle between lig...

Re: Star Wars!

Well, I just watched Episode 7 this afternoon. It turned out that my friend was wrong about my reaction. I agree that the new sequel is better than the prequels but I do want to complain about … certain "WTF" moments  The plot is … somehow predictable imo, if you have watched OT and ...

Re: Dream Role in Les Mis?

Cross gender casting isn't that unusual in youth productions. I saw a school near me do Les Mis last year and the only two guys in the entire cast were Valjean and Marius. Heck, I've played Banquo, Laertes and Bottom myself in student and youth productions. Usually you play them as the gender they ...

Re: Dream Role in Les Mis?

I played Combeferre in mine, along with some other roles here and there when required. As for any role, I'd probably pick Javert if I got to choose.

Re: Gavroche vs Dodger?

Bear in mind that the musical was largely inspired by one of the shows creators, (or was it both?) seeing the Artful Dodger and being inspired to think of Gavroche. From that, there were always going to be some similarities and the fact that he has a cockney accent probably doesn't help the generali...

Re: Did Andrew Lloyd Webber rip off Les Mis?

I haven't seen it although he has had accusations in the past. The Phantom of the Opera theme had accusations of plagiarism for copying the Pink Floyd song Echoes. I think Roger Watters eventually dropped any accusations and didn't bother pursuing it. It might be that ALW genuinely did want the chro...

Haven't been around too much lately but I'd agree with what the others have said. Acaila's an active, knowledgeable member who always seems to contribute a lot. Probably your best bet if you're looking for one.

Good to see you, I'd still be up for a game like this if we could get enough players in to do it.

Re: Community and School Productions

Hehe, I'm so glad you added Stars back. That's the one cut in the Schools Ed that I genuinely can't understand. It doesn't make proper sense without the first verse! That's one thing that's always annoyed me personally. It's not awful without the first verse, but the problem is that it just becomes...

Re: Community and School Productions

I was in a school one of Les Mis over a year ago and it was an absolutely brilliant experience. Loved every minute of it and being onstage in it was great. Had quite a few students lines throughout while I was also in Thenardier's gang and was the farmer as well, also appearing in some chorus scenes...

It was the Sound of Music and I was playing Zeller, was a fun role to play with boo's from the audience each night too.
