Re: Musical Movie?

Awesome news! I hear the release date has been pushed back one week, though -- it's now set for release on December 14th, which would mean it's competing directly against "The Hobbit." Gutsy move by Universal, so let's hope it'll work out.

Internet Backdraft: Les Mis Edition

I got this idea from the LM section on the Theater page of "Internet Backdraft" on TVTropes. Basically, come up with ways to quickly and efficiently start a flame war on a LM page (although I know everyone here is a good LM fan and would never bash someone for saying these). The examples o...

Re: Musical Movie?

Interesting to hear that Schönberg is writing a new song... Hopefully it'll turn out better than some other attempts at adding new songs to musicals after the fact. I do have hope, though. And I'm glad to hear that so many alumni and current cast members from the stage version are involved. There's ...

Re: 10th Vs. 25th Anniversary Concert

My views on the two concerts... TAC Liked: - Colm Wilkinson, Philip Quast, Ruthie Henshall, and Michael Ball -- loved 'em all! - Michael Maguire. Even though he wasn't at his vocal best here, I still liked him a lot. - The orchestrations. Love how lush they sounded! - The Thénardiers. Both of them w...

Re: If you were cast... who would you play?

Heh, I once begged and pleaded for the chance to play Gavroche when I was younger (in an unofficial, just-for-fun concert production done by a local theater club). I got the chance in the very last performance when the kid who regularly sang the part got sick. Fun thing was, my real-life sister play...

Re: Different Characters Sharing Melodies: What Do You Think

Oh wow... I'd never thought of it that way. It's quite brilliant, I'd say. I might save that for if I get into a good-natured debate with a LM detractor in the future.

Re: Different Characters Sharing Melodies: What Do You Think

I agree. I think most people watching or listening to the show, whether they're huge fans or not, aren't thinking "Wait, why is Éponine singing the same tune that Fantine was singing earlier?" They're caught up in the emotion and power of the scenes and songs. (Unless the actors are bad, b...

Different Characters Sharing Melodies: What Do You Think?

It seems like one of the major problems some people have with the musical is the fact that unrelated characters often share melodies -- for example, Bishop Myriel and Marius both sing the "Empty Chairs" melody despite not having any real connection, and Fantine has the "On My Own"...

Re: Musical Movie?

Although I would have been interested to see if Taylor Swift could play Éponine well (or if her performance might have been entertainingly bad), I'm glad Samantha Barks will be doing it instead. I wasn't blown away by her performance in the 25th, but she was decent. Good enough for what is and shoul...

Re: Stephen Sondheim!

Just found out today that Rob Marshall (who directed the Chicago and Nine films) has been announced as director for a film adaptation of Sondheim's Into the Woods for Disney. Hoping it goes well! http://broadwayworld.com/article/Breaking-News-Rob-Marshall-to-Direct-INTO-THE-WOODS-Film-for-Disney-201...

Re: Must your partner love Les Miz?

As long as she tolerates my love for it (and other classic novels and great musicals), I'll be set... She doesn't have to be as obsessed as I am. And hopefully, she won't be the type who'd get jealous of any Fantines/Eponines/Cosettes I'm currently hooked on -- that would be a problem.

Re: Nostalgia

First English recording: OLC. First heard it in 1993 or 94, I think... at least, that's the earliest I can remember, and it would be about 5 years before I heard any other recording. I was hooked on the OLC's version of "Little People," really wanted to play Gavroche, and was gutted when I...

Enjolras-the-jaw: Hi! Great to meet you. :) Yay for LOTR! And hmm... let's see... 3 characters: Faramir, Pippin, Gollum (though Haldir and Tom Bombadil are close runners-up). Book: Two Towers as well. Place: Rivendell, with Edoras not far behind... though Lothlorien, Gondor (at least, post-war), and...

Re: Misheard song lyrics

My misheard lyric contribution is during "Castle on a Cloud", when she says, "there is a lady, all in white", and I always heard "old and white", which made me wonder if Cosette accidentally remembered her mother as some sort of freakishly old grandmother lady. I thoug...
