Re: Anastasia the musical!!

Yeah... That's why, as nice as it is when musicals try to be somewhat more accurate to history and/or the source material than the films they're based on (e.g. the stage versions of Disney's Hunchback), it needs to be done carefully and without throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Re: Barricade Day 2017

I should be okay most times after the weekend... Voted for the evening of the 6th figuring that it'd be afternoon in my time zone; but the 5th would also work. Whenever it is, though, I'll try to pop in! :) Edited to add: The 3rd will absolutely not work for me, though. Alas. So I hope it won't be t...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

I'm curious about what the protocol is for alternates when a show has them. When I saw POTO with the old tour and the Vegas production, they didn't seem to list or announce alternates, only understudies. (Amusingly, with the tour, they just had a big board in the lobby listing everyone in the cast i...

Ooh, please do post if you do! I'll try to be there (and my schedule should be a lot less hectic by then, as well). :D

Re: Political Posts

Agreed. I think disenfranchisement of voters is a huge problem regardless of where they are on the political spectrum (and it would be nice to see more moderates -- especially US Republicans who had the courage to stand up to Trump's party line), but I don't see centrists as inherently more "co...

Re: The Phantom of the Opera

Heh... oh yeah. I don't consider the movie to be a good adaptation of the stage show at all. The 25th anniversary concert is somewhat better, but it really demands the live experience (with a good cast, naturally). Preferably the "replica" versions on the West End, Broadway, and some other...

Hee hee! I've been a Tracfone customer for... wow, almost a decade now; and got one of their smartphones a couple of years ago. Still works great, so hey! :)

Ooh, interesting! Wonder if they'll make it out to Hawaii... (Not holding my breath, since few touring productions do; but occasionally, we get lucky. lol)

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

*hugs 23623* You're in my thoughts, as well -- it certainly is difficult to just be on the sidelines and not know how to help when others are suffering. (Boy, have I been reminded of that recently, as well, with a friend who's trying to get out of an abusive situation. :( )

Re: Song Elimination Game

+1 for Fantine's Arrest. Dear lord, I saw an amazing performance of this one at a local theatre a few years ago -- Fantine was spectacular and heartbreaking. (Really, really need to finish that review. ) -1 for the Wedding Chorale. I echo Havs' thoughts on it, and find it to be a case where t...

Re: How different Les Mis is when it is translated to another language and culture?

Hehe... Reviving an old topic, since I recently noticed a couple of things. The first: though I don't know much German (and most of what I do know comes from lyrics for musicals; ), there was a bit in the German translation of AHFOL that I found rather sweet. For the "Cosette! I don't kno...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Indeed... It's a pretty huge mess any way you slice it. I get why chemical weapons (and especially using them on one's own population, as Assad has done) can't be tolerated. But on the other hand, we seem to be sending the signal that it's okay if he slaughters them by conventional means; chemical w...
