Re: Les Mis Australia 2014

I'm in denial that Hayden is old enough to be playing Javert. He's probably about the same age Quast was, if not older, but I don't care - 2005 was NOT 8 years ago in my head.

Re: The Phantom of the Opera

Ok, that's bad. Thank you, the shitty costume has saved me a bunch of money that is better spent seeing Josh Young in Evita if I'm going to go to Philly for anything next year. (I don't even like Evita, but the music is excellent and I love Josh and I know he'd like me to come, so it's reasonably wo...

Re: Dream Cast

It's really helpful that the only crossover I saw was Stephen Buntrock. My affection for Greg Stone doesn't count, since he was, after all, Valjean, so the beard and wigs change things. And I never actually saw him (he's my favourite Chris I've never seen). At least Charlie is incredibly pretty even...

Re: The Phantom of the Opera

The choreography "supervised" by Matthew Bourne has me wondering if I should go up to Philly for it. (I used to know one of the ensemble guys in his Les Mis days, but that's not quite compelling enough.) Waiting to hear what the general verdict is. I love that they hired all new people, an...

Re: Dream Cast

It's also awkward at the stage door because Charlie is such a sweetheart, but half the time I'm having to remind myself I cannot just stand there and drool. Last I saw him, he'd come down for a mutual friend's cabaret. Charlie is her "gay husband" from college (yep, I know a girl who was a...

Re: 2012 Toronto Production

I love Sam's cloak and hair and dress. Thoroughly approve this Cosette costuming. It's really well done and suits her specifically.

Re: Dream Cast

Seeing Charlie Hagerty in two different Vietnam War musicals was a sad, sad thing. Not that Charlie's hair was the best part of him, but damn, he has really nice hair. (Yes, I drove to Philly to actually suffer through Aspects of Love because Charlie is pretty enough to have made it all worthwhile. ...

Re: Amis and the 1830 Revolution

Exactly - if he was a complete waste of space in 1830, they'd have isolated him. So he was either half-assedly active without ruining anything (following Enjolras around like a puppy trying to get noticed) or absolutely out of the way. I think it's nothing more than a single act that in itself wasn'...

Re: Amis and the 1830 Revolution

If he could sleep for three days off one binge, I think he deserves a medal :) I slightly disagree with Aurelia only in that I think there's a reason, somewhere in the past, of R not being useless - I think Enjolras had something in the back of his mind as to why he's giving R that one last chance o...

Re: 1776

Best show ever. When Ford's Theatre did it last year (season before last), I think I was there every single week of the run. (I'm an usher, and they can usually use the help with the spring musical because it's always packed, so I only paid for one and even then it was half price in order to see a f...

Re: Les Mis Toronto: A Review

I feel like giving Fantine's whore lines out to other people takes away more than it adds - she only has the one john now, right? And she doesn't even have to try for him. At least with her having those (admittedly pretty terrible) lines, she had to exert effort, and one could stage it either with r...

Re: Death of Enjolras - Picture thread

Did I maybe call him Olivia too many times online, so he's providing evidence to the contrary? (there's one picture out there where he looked, despite the stupid goatee, like a girl in drag. Jo Ampil was standing next to him, and he looked equally feminine. But I can never forget that picture, nor c...

Re: 2012 Toronto Production

I hope the new whatever is better than the new song in Miss Saigon. They can't have screwed up both shows at once, right? (right? someone comfort me, even with lies.)

Re: Miss Saigon

I was at Signature Theatre's production on Sunday night, so I've actually seen the new song. It is terrible. I understand what they are trying to do. There are lyrics in there to better explain Chris and Ellen's relationship - they definitely met postwar, it moved sorta fast, she was attracted to th...

Re: Death of Enjolras - Picture thread

Back in high school, I did a paper comparing the imagery of the Owen poem to the imagery Hugo uses in the first part of A l'obéissance passive (in Les Châtiments): same imagery, used to exhort the audience, but it's useful to see how that imagery had been used to prop up the old lie. Which is to say...
