Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Here is a cool article about the origins of "ship" and "slash" -- apparently slash goes back decades before ship. Lots of examples from fandoms I never heard of.

What Prisoner said. ARGH, it's true. I'm using Resist-Bot to fax and write to my congresspeople not that it's going to do any good. Texas is backward. Resist-Bot, what it is: you text in your name, address, and so on, and a message, and it sends it via fax or mail. Not a bot in the usual (spammy) se...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

It's coming to Dallas and I'm going to get to go! That's great! Please share your experience afterwards, I'm curious about this production. I will certainly do so. It's next year, but even so we didn't get very good seats. Still, seeing it at all is going to be a thrill. I'll have to take some oper...

Re: Political Posts

Way too much to comment on all of it and I'm jumping in way late but I'll just tell my experience with getting a job in the US, which I think I've posted before but it is peripherally related to this discussion. I majored in linguistics. They told us with that degree we could get a job at one of two...

I must be a worse fan than I thought. to my surprise I can identify every scene just by looking. Is this the current tour? If so, I'm going to miss it... ticket prices are right out roof.

Re: Prayer Requests

Houston is still swamped and the governor of Texas doesn't want to release any of the state emergency funds to them... Update: Houston has some money now. After sparring over whether the state should tap into its Rainy Day Fund for the city’s effort to recover from Hurricane Harvey’s devastating fl...

Re: Political Posts

I saw a post on facebook (admittedly, that is always a bad way to start a point) saying Kaepernick had been just sitting down until he spoke to a veteran about it, and decided to kneel as that was still showing respect while making a point. So if that is true, it's doubly idiotic. It's a true story...

Re the shooting in Las Vegas. My personal beliefs as an American citizen: There should be background checks for buying guns and a waiting period, and training and licensing like for cars. This might cut back on background-noise gun deaths (like family disputes, suicides, road rage), but I don't thin...

I'm so ashamed. Those tweets about Puerto Rico and Mayor Cruz of San Juan. First he doesn't send help, then he defames Mayor Cruz who's on the ground and trying to fix things without enough supplies or logistical aid. If a person fell in a well he'd say they were self-seeking for wanting somebody to...

Re: Best and worst of the Schools Edition

One nitpick that I consistently have with School's Eds is when Fantine only wears a mop cap after her hair gets cut, as opposed to wearing a short wig Those mobcaps are ridiculous. Surely it would not be too hard to at least pin up the hair right quick and fit on a tight cap. I'd like to see a Fant...
