Re: Language learning

Quiero aprender espanol pero tengo acento muy malo. Estoy avergonzada. Francais, non, too much difference between spelling and pronunciation.

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Hello, friends. Thank you for your kind words on the occasion of my getting employment. I've been working about three weeks now and liking it. The 4 a.m. job is proofreading for EarthSky.org, a science news site for the general public. Working at that hour means going to bed about 7. The other job i...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Hello, friends. Big event in my life: I have two new jobs (I was unemployed before and my time was my own). They are both part-time, but they add up, and one of them starts at 4 a.m. I'm going to have to get used to this...but I got paid today and that means a lot!

Belated Happy New Year! Let's hope 2018 beats 2017. And this is the year I'm going to see LM live! If all goes well I will get to see the touring production in Dallas, Texas.

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

I was going to go to Cuba but then I didn't. ... March, I guess. I'd love to go to Cuba before it gets modernized and touristy. I understand it's a time capsule. Of course their Internet service is strictly controlled and people are still being thrown in prison for wrong thinking and such--maybe wh...

Re: The Thenardier Sisters

Gawd, "Misérables" sure is right. You captured their poverty in that picture. I always felt very sorry for those sisters since they were so well-kept as children and lost it all and had to dress in scraps.

Re: Political Posts

Well, hey! Alabama managed to elect their first Democratic candidate to the Senate in over 20 years . . . WOO-HOO! Now let's hope there isn't some kind of a backlash. What he said about the sanctity of the family being greatest during the time of slavery was more than absurd, it was abominable. Whe...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Victor Hugo believed in universal public education, or at least his characters did, as a step toward utopia. Here is an interesting article about public schools in France banning phones:

Here is a cool article about the origins of "ship" and "slash" -- apparently slash goes back decades before ship. Lots of examples from fandoms I never heard of.

What Prisoner said. ARGH, it's true. I'm using Resist-Bot to fax and write to my congresspeople not that it's going to do any good. Texas is backward. Resist-Bot, what it is: you text in your name, address, and so on, and a message, and it sends it via fax or mail. Not a bot in the usual (spammy) se...
