Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Ehm, let me think, something to say... eh.. I pluralize Enjolras as Enjolrates and I feel like I'm the only one who does that. It just feels more accurate in my mind to the Latin grammer. Amicus -> Amici/ Marius -> Marii. Tempestas -> Tempestates/Enjolras -> Enjolrates. What's fitting is that the w...

Re: What Gender are you

And male fans on the Internet seem like they tend to go mainly for sci-fi/fantasy/comic book fandoms (and sports, of course), leaving the theatre forums and blogs mainly to the female fans. Given this...I find it quite interesting that among my friends (in real life, as I don't know a lot of Intern...

Re: How different Les Mis is when it is translated to another language and culture?

I think it is! I'm not sure though. I found the lyrics on this old geocities website: http://www.geocities.ws/agategs/soundtracks/lesmis-nl.html Oh, that one is fun! :D My pleasure! Haha. Grove leugens, 'k weet verdomd Dat het volk in opstand komt Gross lies, I know damned well That the people will ...

I know this is an old thread but I'm just posting because I think it would be the polite thing to do. I'm using the sixth icon if that's okay. :) Thanks for making these.

Re: How different Les Mis is when it is translated to another language and culture?

Looking at some other lines I found this one: Marius: let their army come, we like the taste of them raw. Marius??? Turns out that's a Dutch expression meaning 'We can't stand them' but still, that was an interesting line to find. I found another interesting line in the Confrontation....

Re: What Gender are you

Enjolras xD.
Nah in all seriousness this is actually something I've noticed in all fandoms I've been a part of. As I am female that might actually be because those fandoms are more appealing to woman so I'd be more likely to join them? I don't know, actually I have no clue. :/

Re: How different Les Mis is when it is translated to another language and culture?

Do you also feel death nearby? Will the world know why you fall? Are you going to be shot down soon for nothing? Is the entire society lying? Wow! I love that translation, it fits Grantaire really well! Also, Dutch Jehan appears to be religious? Could you tell us why? :) Yes, I also like th...

Re: How different Les Mis is when it is translated to another language and culture?

Haha, that is pretty funny! If you are interested, the full translation of those lines is: Do you also feel death nearby? Will the world know why you fall? Are you going to be shot down soon for nothing? Is the entire society lying? I don't know if it is relevant or not but not only is all of this s...

E/R for me. It is actually the first pairing I have ever shipped. This is saying something because I used to be a Hetalia fan. I don't know if you guys are familiar with that fandom but I was definitely the odd one out... https://youtube.com/watch?v=oCxjWhO5rYE I came across this and it really made ...

Re: How different Les Mis is when it is translated to another language and culture?

I remember translating some parts of the Dutch translation to English and noticing some differences. For one thing Éponine's lines in 'One day more' sound even sadder: 'One more day in loneliness...' 'One more day he doesn't notice.' 'I was prepared to do anything.' 'But he saw no place for me.' Als...

Re: Summarize Les Mis in one sentence

This sounds like a fun challenge! Jean Valjean, while being chased by Javert, adopts a daughter, who grows up to fall in love with Marius, who is loved by Éponine, the daughter of the inn-keepers she is staying with and who is fighting for the freedom of France with a group of students leaded by Enj...
