Re: Vietnamese Spambots

Vietnamese Spambots can love Les Mis, too.

Typically when she notices, Acaila deletes them.

Re: Tecklenburg 2018

Interesting! I like the idea of the prostitutes starting to appear towards the end of IDAD and the Nun moment sounds well-played as well. (I feel like I've seen something similar before, but there's a strong possibility that it stems from a movie rather than a stage production.) Definitely not a fan...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Katie Hall and Killian Donnelly as Fantine and Valjean makes me feel old as heck.

Re: "Three men I saw beyond the wall..." ???

Personally, I've always interpreted this as a complete Cosette fabrication. She was busy snogging Marius but she needs to cover for the fact that Valjean heard Éponine scream, so that's what she comes up with. "Oh, I saw three burglar-type guys!" She'd have been better off to have said she...

Re: BBC’s ‘Les Misérables’ Miniseries

Couple clips from the upcoming series here. Nothing to write home about, but from a cinematic standpoint it all looks pretty good.

(I.e. better than that horrible movie with unnecessary dutch angles and extreme close-ups.)

Re: 2012 Toronto Production

I was fortunate enough to go to "A One Night Stand" tonight, which was a fundraiser for Daffodil Place (a facility for those dealing with cancer in Newfoundland) hosted by the Toronto Come From Away cast and crew. David Silvestri, Les Mis TO's Combeferre sang New York State of Mind and was...

Re: Language learning

Does anybody else here have an interest in fictional languages? I tried learning Vulcan/Golic and Sindarin elvish at one point; didn't get very far with that though. I dabbled in Sindarin/Quenya for a while as a teenager, but I never really made any major efforts with it. I kind of struggle now wit...

Re: Where would grisettes live?

I've just written enough fic over the years to have researched into the day-to-day minutiae! Application of the facts help stick it in the ol' memory banks.

Re: Where would grisettes live?

Keep in mind that the grisette is more of an idea than a specific class of woman: kind of like a Valley Girl. A Valley Girl is characterized by their colloquial way of speaking and their love of shopping, but named for the San Fernando Valley that they "come from." You can talk like a Vall...

Re: Where would grisettes live?

Feuilly doesn't necessarily need to be grouped with the ladies, you could find some kind of support to put him just about anywhere depending on what you want to do with him: group him with the Polish contingent, artists, thieves, whatever story you want to tell for Feuilly, you can fairly well justi...

Re: UK and Ireland tour 2018-2019

Kind of related - went to the open auditions on a complete whim, Good for you for giving it a shot! Sometimes with cattle calls like that it isn't so much about actually finding the cast as defending a casting choice they already have in mind. Later on they can say "well, we did hold open audi...

Re: Criticism

Hm, does the criticism (in regards to misogyny) go to Hugo for thinking the way most men thought during the time period he was writing from, or to ourselves for glorifying a piece of literature that is in some ways outdated -- despite the fact that in many ways it isn't?
