Re: Is Marius a Gary-Stu?

Yes, he is Gary Stu. Or would be, if written nowadays.

Re: Dream Cast

Valjean: Someone who can sing, so unlike earnest, well-meaning Hugh Jackman Marius = anybody except worst Marius ever, Eddie Redmayne (fault maybe the terrible direction, if he was allowed to sing he could have been perfectly fine) Fantine = no overrated Anne Hathaway NO THESE "SINGERS" AN...

Re: The Abaissé Marie Suzette Challenge

Sorry for resurrecting this thread (Resurrecting the dead? 19th century? Body snatchers?) but... Here is my Marie Suzette. She is much older than Suzettes generally, but she is still Marie Suzette through and through. Rose is marvelous beauty, with red hair, partly covered by a veil with her namesak...

Re: What Les Mis Character are you? quiz

What do you hope to accomplish? When I die, I want to look back at my life and say "That was fun but now it´s time to go!" What is something you can't live without? I love to fill my notebooks with my writings! Do you follow your heart or your mind? Heart What's your outlook on life/the fu...

Re: Characters when they were younger

I toyed with an idea of fan fiction about young, sleazily villainous Madame Thénardier (inspired by 2012 movie, admittedly) but I left it.

Re: Perception of Importance of Characters

I agree, the musical is my favorite adaptation, too. Love triangle? It´s just fine, even in the musical: Marius/Cosette has pretty chocolate box romance (this was a compliment), and I like both On my own and A little fall of rain. It´s minor part of the story, of course, but it attracts young girls ...

Re: Stupid things YOU'VE thought about Les Mis

While reading I pronounce ALL names like they are written - in Finnish way - except Jean Valjean and Grantaire. I can´t pronounce French!
Before I read the Brick I hated Éponine. I thought she was just spoiled rich brat and bullying snot with boo hoo hoo teenage crush to Marius.

Re: What if Les Mis was a staged play (instead of a musical)

It would be interesting to see a staged play. Whether it would work or not I'm not sure though. The problem with Les Mis is that it's largely not tailored to being adapted, whether that be for film, play etc. The musical can largely get away with it because of the music. I totally agree with this. ...

Re: Poll: Favourite English language recording?

Disclaimer: Unpopular opinions! Freedom of speech in the name of... eer, Café Musain! First, movie is my LEAST favorite recording. No... just no. Overrated as hell. I rather listen Nick Jonas (likable, earnest, but too nasal) Marius (holding invisible box?) than Hugh Jackman (very sympathetic Valjea...

Re: Songs that make you think of characters?

Probably the human weaknesses - instead of mere evil - make me sympathize with characters. Also, I think Fosca is a sort of tragic figure- a romantic who has not everything right in upstairs. As someone who has been in mental hospital because of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder I have soft spot to men...
