Re: Language learning

I know this is a super old thread that i'm reviving but here goes ;) I'm a native speaker of English, fluent in French, uhh bad in Polish, intermediate in Latin and beginner in German and Russian. Wasn't planning on learning French, but the lingusitics professor at my university thought i'd be reall...

Re: Political Posts

I wonder if its a case of nobody wants to be "against freedom of speech" so the far-right twists those words around. The thing is we have a freedom to say what we want, and if its bad people have a right to say "that's terrible!" and advocating genocide, racial cleaning, etc is a...

Re: Political Posts

Ewww, that is terrible! I feel like for a while in the US there was more shame to being racist, but now a new wave arose. A sad fact is there are die-hard racists, bigots and discriminators everywhere... today on the internet I saw somebody open up her ask box for cultural asks, and some German sent...

Re: Political Posts

So far (thankfully!) judging by my social media there is universal condemnation of the nazis from my liberal, libertarian, conservative and socialists. It was absolutely disgusting what went on. Also, very surreal that these people still exist, and most of them were in their 20s. I met one fascist, ...

Re: Les Amis: Ages and Religions

I don't know why, but I always thought Enjolras was an atheist... I think it's because I see, I do not know where, something that says that republican were atheist... Or maybe it was my brother, who is an republican atheist... I don't know... :D I know that at this period, in France, about everyone...

Re: Charles Jeanne (and the other real life revolutionaries)

I know right? as I was walking past the Saint-Merri barricade sight I saw children playing and blowing bubbles and all I could think of was the Brick speech.

A Cinq Heures is a great source, I read "Barricades" and it was good.

Re: The Rant thread

Why is it so hard to find jobs? I've been looking since August 2016 when my amazing internship in Paris ended... and it stinks being in my hometown, away from Paris and away from my university's town. I feel so trapped here and its annoying even hearing about protests in the capital city that i'm t...

Re: The Rant thread

I wish the government could force employers to give every graduate a job in their field of study, or at least universities should be forced to pay back student debt if you can't find work. I wish the government would subsidize health care for people who are actively on the verge of death. http://cd...

Re: Political Posts

So they want a huge federal database of all the voters and how they voted in the past. If that isn't a recipe for totalitarianism I don't know what is. We have a tradition called "the secret ballot" and nobody is supposed to know how you vote. " Now that is a scary thought. i...

Charles Jeanne (and the other real life revolutionaries)

Upon realizing with a look of sheer shock there is no thread dedicated to this wonderfully melodramatic historical figure who used too much italics and spoke in a very distinct style I decided to take it upon myself to make such a thread ;) Anyway, now to sound like a serious person who studies revo...

Re: Popular Fanon

They did that in the Boston Tea Party Museum, I got assigned my great (great... who knows how many) grandfather. That was pretty cool. Great idea, really engages the audience. Now I'm thinking there should be a Barricades Museum someday "ha! perfect job!" (i'd probably need EU work permits...
