Re: Les Mis on Facebook!

Marius Pontmercy: I just spent three hours looking at every profile of everyone named "Ursule" on the site and none of them are her. :( Jean Valjean and Thenardier are now fans of Urban Wall Climbing and Jailbreaking. Marius posted on Courfeyrac's wall: Can I come sleep with you? Courfeyra...

Hey girl--or would that be "Bonjour, fille"? Come! Be funny!

If this is the right forum: folks, I need you to come up with some funny! You know the Ryan Gosling "Hey girl" meme? (Google it if not. Easy to find.) Someone emailed me a Les Mis related one: Aaron Tveit with the caption, "Hey girl, let's go to the barricades together." But I kn...

Re: Musical Movie?

Aaron Tveit talking about Les Mis: http://www.broadway.com/videos/154524/aaron-tveit-on-carrying-the-broadway-banner-in-les-miserables-bar-fights-with-russell-crowe-why-he-wont-tweet/?page=1&series=show-people-with-paul-wontorek&sort=newest#play That was very cool! Thank you. He seems a tru...

Re: Éponine and prostitution

He's my favorite too. :) Though the beauty of the book is that nearly everyone is lovable in some way. (Okay, not the Thenardiers so much, but most of the others.) I suppose I just want Marius to cry on Cosette's shoulder about the barricade, because for one thing I am a sap. :) But also, it would g...

Re: Could Gavroche have ended up being like his father?

Pretty much agreed with YoungStudentMarius, though it's possible he'd end up more like Grantaire if he ended up liking wine too much. ;) Interesting question though, since I was just wondering the other day if, had Éponine lived and found now-reformed Montparnasse somewhere, would they have honestly...

Re: Éponine and prostitution

It's true; one of the things I actually prefer about the musical is that we see Marius' grief--not only for Éponine, but more significantly for his Amis. It's a bit weird, really, how little that's mentioned in the book. I do prefer sympathetic Marius.

Re: Éponine and prostitution

It is quite tragic, and I sort of wonder why most adaptations (including musical, most prominently) don't hint at it. I suppose they figure they already have one major tragic-prostitute character, and another major abused-kid character (young Cosette), so having another character with both features ...

Re: Éponine and prostitution

True. I wager it's never the same league or set-up as Fantine's street-walking type of prostitution, but it's an equally debasing arrangement of various molestations. There might be an element of consensuality (consensualness? spellcheck doesn't like either one) with Montparnasse, but it surely stil...

Re: Éponine and prostitution

*nods* After posting this, I found (via Google) a LiveJournal post about the subject - http://lesmiz.livejournal.com/443606.html - which said it was crossposted on Abaisse, but which I haven't found yet either. Sorry, original poster! In any case, she also mentioned the hint in Thenardier's letter -...

Éponine and prostitution

This feels like a stupid question, but I'll throw it out there anyway, and see if good dedicated Brick readers and researchers can give me a more decisive answer. In short, was Éponine ever a prostitute? The first time or two I read the book, I thought, no, she wasn't. Hugo made the prostitution pre...

Re: Musical Movie Reviews/Discussion

Got a chuckle out of "SUCK IT, LLOYD-WEBBER!" Back in high school (late '80s-early '90s for me), we loved Phantom and Les Mis equally as musicals, and I even thought I liked both novels equally well at the time. But a couple of years ago I tried to re-read Leroux's novel, and couldn't even...

Re: Anime?

Oh yeah, the saccharine levels of random cute kid stuff they've thrown in is off the charts. (Though, okay, I admit finding it sweet when Marius knelt to hug some crying street kid who was never in the book. Heh.) Also, I can't help thinking that Cosette's behavior/demeanor comes off more like that ...

Re: Anime?

I'm about 28 episodes into this now, and am kind of ashamed how much I'm liking it. So much of it is weirdly book-faithful. And yet I'm laughing at it at the same time, because yeah, it's Les Mis with the harsh edges sanded off. (Now with more cute happy kids and helpful doggies! And bread magically...

Re: Musical Movie Reviews/Discussion

lemonlye , have you seen any of the French films? Because they do a good job with the dynamics of Marius/Cosette/Éponine for the most part. The 1957 (not to be confused with a 1954 American film) and 1934 (not to be confused with the 1935 film) are widely available on DVD and are worth watching. Th...

Re: Which character would you most like to have sex with?

Courfeyrac. Just, Courfeyrac. Enjolras is a close second, but he'd probably make me dress up like France. Very late to this thread and this remark, but LOL at the above. :D Agreed that in the book, Courfeyrac seems the best date of the Amis. So it was a surprise, but a pleasant one, to find such a ...
