Re: Musical Movie Reviews/Discussion

I have to know, how close is the final product to that screenplay from this Spring? I'm hoping that the Gorbeau tenement made it in, especially that Marius/Éponine scene. I know I'm seeing it Friday, but don't mind being spoiled.

Re: The Phantom of the Opera

I'm also a huge fan of the novel and show! Something I've always wondered? Why no Paris production of ALW's version? Surely the Paris Opera can't be that anti-Leroux. I doubt people are going to start thinking that Christina Nilsson really had an Erik/Opera Ghost who was obsessively in love with her...

Re: Re-adapting the original French version

I've spent hours and hours wondering how I'd adapt the show. I think I'd keep it mostly as is, though it would be very necessary to show Fantine's death. It's odd how they skip right over that. I understand that the French audience would've been bored to tears having to see all the major beats of th...

Re: Details on the 1980 Paris production

I find it absolutely strange that the Paris production is so obscure, considering how popular the show is now. You'd think we'd be inundated with information. I spent twenty years loving the concept album before I ever saw a single photo. It's very mysterious. I really want to write Rose Laurens to ...

Re: YouTube links

I usually shrug at cover versions. However,Katherine Jenkins singing "J'avais Reve D'une Autre Vie"? With a more current "I Dreamed A Dream" sound? Including the rising note? Yes :D Finally,it sounds right. No ridiculous pining over Tholomyes that Kretzmer thought was a good idea...

Re: Musical Movie?

If we're being totally honest, I'm just glad they didn't talk to Bieber about playing Marius for this. I think I can deal with almost anything else. Let's not give them any ideas. I'm just happy that we might finally get a decent English language movie. One that's fairly faithful to the story. Thou...

Re: French lyrics transcription project

Bless you all for your work! Especially the transcriptions and translations for the 1980 version.
(I can finally understand what they're singing on the OFC.)
This is one of my favorite threads.

Re: Pictures

Makes me crazy too. For such a hugely popular production,I find the lack of pictures and video odd.
I really want to mount a production of it one day. With a singable English translation.

Re: Pictures

On Google image search. There were two programs from that production on eBay. Sadly, both of them had been sold.
Why are pics from the show so scarce?

Valjean(Maurice Barrier?),Cosette, and the Thénardiers Palais des Sports,1980. I'm LOVING the strange kabuki Madame Thénardier. It's so evocative and fab. What's surprising is how much it looks like the show does now. Why oh why are pics so hard to find of this production?? Really want to see 'Ponine...

Re: Nostalgia

First English recording:OBC. It was a Christmas present from my mom,who was a fan of the novel(She'd first read it in junior high.) I loved it. I fell deeply in love with Marius,in only the way a closeted gay fourteen year old boy can. I went around singing "On My Own" all the time. After ...

If anyone needs me? I'll be over in the corner, hugging the Brick tightly, and softly singing Mais la vie a tué mes rêves over and over.

I just found this online, and am now dying to see it. I'm curious. Do they leave the convent interlude in? Also, tell me that Éponine isn't a love struck princess.
