Re: If Abaissé suddenly turned into a 404 Not Found...

Would be willing to chip in, I value the archives and research here even though I'm not around as much anymore! (Also I spent a lot of time writing up the Dreyfus affair and would hate to lose that thread!)

Re: Other Hugo-based operas

There was a 1989 opera of Quatrevingt-treize, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. Details here.

There was also a 1936 opera of the same work, info here.

Re: 1789 Les Amants de la Bastille

Just got a highlights album of this. I have no clue what the story is but I like some of the songs- ("Fixe"/"La cri de ma naissance" and "Au palais royale" in particular).

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

Hey guys, I've missed you all. Finally graduated college, which is a huge relief, and am now looking for a job. Also now have a girlfriend, we met on tumblr and have been together for about ten months. Acaila, I'm not so keen on Clinton-- she is left-wing on some issues but on foreign policy she's a...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

I'm majoring in Russian, and it's hard! Taking a year off in the middle didn't help; I forgot all my vocabulary. But it's fun, and I've got a private class where we just read Pushkin all the time now. Anyway, sorry I haven't been around much, I've been busy with school and also mostly on tumblr. But...

Re: Le Cafe Mu(in)sain

I'm no judge of singing, but Mann's not bad on the recording of Scarlet Pimpernel that I have. Then again, I've never heard his Javert.

Re: 64 italian miniseries

And this Fantine...not quite book Fantine, but so loveable and sad. She's conscious that she's not all that bright, not clever about the ways of the world (her so-called friends keep telling her this, and she calls herself stupid). Yet this isn't enough to stop her from trusting the Thenardiers afte...

Re: 64 italian miniseries

Watching this now from the beginning, rather than in bits and pieces, and it is so excellent. The only complaint I have so far is that they cut Petit Gervais.

The scene where Javert asks to be fired was word-for-word from the book...except where they worked in his backstory! Even better!
