Re: Your first experience of Les Mis

A musical-fan friend and former classmate of mine took me to Berlin to see the musical just before the end of its run there. It was exactly nine years ago, today, on November 7th, 2004. I came out totally fascinated, couldn't even say why. Next day, I borrowed the Vienna Cast recording from that fri...

Re: ^, >, v

^All the ones I don't speak already! :D More seriously, I wish my Slovakian and Hungarian were better (as in: on a level according my age, not on the level of a two-year-old). They're my dad's native languages after all. Also, one language from every continent (and no, English doesn't count for Nort...

Re: What Gender are you

It wasn't me who clicked "yes", but maybe someone who wanted to say "Yes, I have a sex, but I don't care to make it public here".

Actually, I'm tempted to unpack the whole sex/gender-difference-thing now... So which of the two did the OP actually mean?

Re: Video games?

So, AC4 comes out on certain consoles today... Not for me unfortuantely. Did anybody already get it? First impressions? No spoilers, please. I'm also here to share a sad, sad story: I have mentioned before that I moved recently and having no time to come to Paisley before and look for a flat, I just...

Re: Pet Peeves?

All true and if a movie ever depicts old galleys without masts being used as cells in the bagne, I'll be one happy penal history geek. But as long as they show Valjean and co. actually row them it annoys the hell out of me. And yes, that's why I'm slightly less annoyed about the 25th Anniversary Tou...

Re: Origins of the characters' names

No, not a translation. It's the French "Classiques de poche"-edition. Notes by Guy Rosa, Commentaries by Nicole Savy, with the result that I never know who wrote what exactly.

Re: Pet Peeves?

When anybody thinks the "galleys" mentioned in the books refer to actual ships and that what Valjean did for 19 years was to row one of those around the Mediterranean. It takes five minutes to look it up on wikipedia. I especially blame the 25th Anniversary Tour, as much as I think that th...

Re: Time to for another adaptation?

Okay, great. I have a friend who studies "movie sciences" (translating the German word verbatim), I'm gonna ask her, if she has an idea.

Re: The earliest versions up to 1925

I never saw it dated 1914, though... Where did you see that?
Actually, unless I completely misremember the movie's credit, the movie dated itself 1912... I'll dig up my notes about it to confirm that.
Great that you wrote them! Let's hope!

Re: Official Les Mis Recordings

@Prisoner24653: I was finding a new job and moving to a different country... Abaissé-attendance suffered from it... But you are right, I am not terribly fond of Imai's Javert to say the least... I still noted a recording missing from the list: The 1987 Israeli recording. There was an official highli...

Humanracer, can I ask how you know that? And what we'd have to do to get them to release it, by any chance?

Re: The earliest versions up to 1925

DeHavilland, I cannot put into words just how awesome it is that you found those! Humanracer: My reference to the 1910 Japanese movie was the Japanese wikipedia. They didn't have a source. Also, 1914 movie? To my knowledge there isn't one from 1914. If you mean 12/13 (yes, it's uncertain from when i...
