Re: What would you do if you were Valjean?

It is a very difficult question. I wish I could say that I'd immediately decide to save Champmathieu, but I know I would have a moral dilemma equal to, if not greater than Valjean's. I think, in the end though, I would have to save Champmathieu. I know I'd spend the rest of my life in misery and sel...

Re: Enjolras as a Christ Figure

I definitely wanted to include a lot of the references that you guys mentioned, especially Enjolras being "an officiating priest" and his voice having "the thrill of a hymn." Unfortunately, I had a page limit, and I could have easily filled that with a summary of Enjolras's appea...

Re: Enjolras as a Christ Figure

Gervais, I actually did have a thought sort of similar that I wanted to include in the paper, but unfortunately it would have put me over the page limit. I sort of thought of the three of them as the trinity in a way. Mind you, I didn't really spend much time on it, since I didn't include it. Howeve...

Re: Enjolras as a Christ Figure

Of course I'd be willing to post it. I'm actually quite thrilled that you guys want to read it. It is quite long, so I'm not going to post it in the thread, but I did put it on my seldom used livejournal, so here's the link: http://mlle-patria.livejournal.com/3805.html.

Enjolras as a Christ Figure

Going to a Jesuit university, I am required to take a few theology courses, so I'm currently in a christology class. For our final papers we were required to write about a character from a movie or book and how he or she is an archetypal christ figure and compare him or her to portraits of Jesus in ...

Re: Visual Inspirations for Characters

I agree whole-heartedly! Although I loved Eddie Redmayne's portrayal of Marius (he got all the awkwardness right) I thought he looked a lot more like how I pictured Jehan.

Re: Musical Movie Reviews/Discussion

Just a random question or two. What did you guys think of Valjean's new song, "Suddenly"? Personally I thought it was an interesting idea and really captured how much being responsible for Cosette and loving her changed Valjean. Also, how did you guys feel about some of the cuts made to th...

Re: Musical Movie Reviews/Discussion

I saw the midnight showing of the movie last night and I was so thrilled! Naturally, there were some things that I didn't like, like Bring Him Home, but that's beside the point. I was so thrilled that they put in so much from the book that normally does not appear in the musical. Some of my favorite...

Re: Under the Eye of the Revolution, T

Merci Citoyenne! I'm glad you think I got Jehan's character down well, as it was very off in the first draft so I was a bit worried.

Under the Eye of the Revolution, T

The shot startled Jehan, causing him to drop one of the paving stones they had torn up, which left a nasty gash across his palm. His eyes darted about the area, attempting to find the source of the first shot of the émeute. The scene his eyes rested on made his stomach drop. The large house toward t...

Re: And here I am...

Sounds awesome! I've learned a few judo throws in my class and really enjoyed it, but I live in a small town, so finding places that teach other martial arts to cross train in is very difficult.

Re: And here I am...

Hello there! It's great to meet another martial artist (I do tae kwon do myself). However, I've never heard of Kuro Kage Jutso, but from the name I'm guessing it's Japanese? Is it like Judo with lots of throws? Or is it more like tae kwon do which focuses on kicks and strikes? Sorry. I'm both curiou...

Re: Musical Movie?

The one thing that really surprised me is that they didn't use DYHTPS for the trailer as it's kind of the iconic song from the musical. However, i suppose more people know I dreamed a dream because of Susan Boyle and whatnot. Although I would have liked to see more of the barricade, I like what I sa...

Re: Dead Poet Society

I love Shakespeare and Dickinson as well. However, some of the best poems I have ever come across are from the children at the Terezin Concentration camp outside of Praque. There's a collection called, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly." They're simple and heart wrenching.
