Re: New Translation - Julie Rose

The latest date I've got for the release of the Donougher translation is June 6 (the ISBN is 014144228X), but from what I've read it sounds like it was announced nearly a year ago, and they just keep pushing it back. So now both the movie cover and the Coralie Bickford-Smith hardcover have the Denny...

Re: Musical Movie Reviews/Discussion

I went to see the movie again, then wrote this review, and now I'm really tired. I thought I'd like it here anyway. It's very long, but contains subheadings.

Re: Musical Movie Reviews/Discussion

I really need to see the film again before I make my mind up, but these are a couple of my first impressions: First of all, put me in the Crowe-love camp. I completely was not expecting that, but from the moment he asked Valjean to remove him from his post, through Confrontation and taking off in St...

Re: Musical Movie?

You mean the "follow to the letter your itinerary" part? That, in addition to some of the reports I've read on tumblr from the preview screenings make me very nervous. Considering how good the screenplay they released is, it will be a real shame if the film audiences receive doesn't live u...

Re: "Les Misérables: From Stage to Screen"

I want it! I will try not to be broke when it comes out... It says 96 pages though, which doesn't sound fair. I know it's only one movie, but I'd love to see something more detailed, along the lines of the similar ones that exist for LOTR, Harry Potter, and other popular franchises.

Re: Do you have a lot of friends who are interested in Les M

I do a lot of theatre, so obviously lots of people I know love the show. One of my friends' schools did the show this year, so they know it really well too. I also have a lot of people saying, "Oh, you like Les Mis? So does one of my other friends! She's a huge Les Mis fan!" and I'd really...

Re: Musical Movie?

What I get from this trailer (well, what I can see/hear of it) is that the movie is going to be something completely new. The voices sound nothing like what we're used to, but even though Russell Crowe sounds nothing like my favourite Javerts, I feel like in the movie it could totally work. I didn't...

Re: Musical Movie?

So, do we have any idea of what has actually been cut? With all the cool things that are now in there, what's been taken out? I get that you can do a lot more on screen than on stage in the same amount of time, but given that there's a whole new song, and the sheer amount of content to communicate, ...

Re: Musical Movie?

I think a book death would be the most appropriate for a movie. Both the original barricade-turntable and the tour cart rely on that *reveal* moment for impact (just in case you're not crying already), and with all the camera angles a lot of the effect will be gone. Enjolras alone, lying on top of a...

Re: Musical Movie?

I urgently need to get back to homework, but I just popped in to say that I love this poster. Love. It. It looks like it fits in perfectly with the aesthetic of the film, and it's just such a perfect re-imagining of the iconic logo. Plus, I like the "Fight. Dream. Hope. Love." It's a bit o...

Re: Language learning

Another Japanese speaker! Yay! Although... I cannot speak Japanese well at all, and I've been taking classes for maybe 14 years. But I am a Japanese major at university, I am just going to graduate without being able to speak the language with any fluency whatsoever, hahaha. There's a sort of tradit...

Re: Hot or Not?

I'm growing to like him. It would take a lot for me to call anybody ugly. I think his is that type of attractiveness that is so unusual you don't notice it at first. The only thing I dislike is that he doesn't look nearly derpy enough for Marius.

Re: Musical Movie?

Yeah, you could probably cover Samantha Barks in dirt and black out her teeth, and she'd still look hot as hell. I like that they are really exploring all their options in this film. If indeed they go with a montage for the work song that will be interesting. It looks like they're making the most of...

Re: Musical Movie?

Yeah, I'm definitely disappointed by Hathaway as well. In my opinion, "I had a dream my life would be/So different from this hell I'm living/So different now from what it seemed" should be big, though if I knew Anne could do it I could respect this interpretation as an artistic choice, but...

Oh really? Joseph Spieldenner's comment said it was... That's strange.
